Healthy lifestyle awareness month is about raising awareness on eating healthy and nutritious foods.

During the festive season people “pigged out” almost every day because it’s a time to be merry and eat all the things you like. The healthy conscience one’s say it’s time to “cheat” from their usual diets.  So, when the festive season comes to an end in January, most people make the resolution to go back to their healthy diets, start gym again and take all those health precautions again. And the newbies as well come along who wish to start their health and fitness journey.

February is all about that exactly, eating healthy and getting back into routine! Slowly going back to normal life, re-adjusting again. It’s about going back to the gym, eating healthy foods again, and keeping on track until the cycle starts again.

But this is not meant to be the case.

The truth is that healthy food is supposed to be consumed all the time, no matter what time of the year it is.

According to Aon’s health article, there are five healthy lifestyle elements that must be considered when speaking of healthy lifestyle:

  1. Good nutrition
  2. Regular physical activity – gym, walking, jogging, etc.
  3. Stop smoking
  4. Stop drug and alcohol abuse
  5. Practise safe sex and must have a monogamous partner

Health experts say that consuming healthy foods helps the body to prevent many of the unwanted non-communicable diseases sugar diabetes, stroke, obesity, heart disease and many others. Experts advise that eating healthy may not be the popular trend but it is certainly the best for one’s body.

Some healthy eating habits and food include:

  1. Drinking a lot of water, at least 8 glasses of water per day
  2. Reducing carbohydrates in your diet
  3. Cut out the “bad” fats like pastries, fried foods, etc.
  4. Cook more at home than eating out
  5. Limit sugar intake ie. In your tea, baking, etc.
  6. Portion control, limit the amount of food you dish.

And many more. Other experts believe that you could eat anything you want; the important part is to eat in MODERATION!

Eating healthy is very important especially in the days of today where COVID-19 exists and we have to keep our bodies as healthy as possible by eating the right food which will supply our bodies with what they need.

During a pandemic like this and the very hot summers, we need to drink a lot of fluids that will flush out the unwanted systems in our bodies.
